A Brief Introduction to Energy Healing
Our bodies, and everything in the universe, are made entirely of energy.  If we break the body down into its smallest parts, all that remains is energy.  When this energy is condensed, it forms mass.  Everything from atoms to the human body to the earth are made of energy.  It is the fundamental nature of the universe.

Throughout human history, there have been various cultural definitions and beliefs about how energy functions within our bodies and interacts with our surrounding environment.  The list of names for energy is long and includes Chi (Qi), Mana, Prana, Light, the Holy Spirit, the Universal Life Force, and many more.  Given the wide variety of cultural beliefs about the existence and function of various types of energies, there are also numerous means of using this energetic force to heal.  These include modalities such as Shamanic Techniques, Reiki, Acupuncture/Acupressure, Chakra Balance, Aura Healing, and more.

Energy Healers are people that have learned to use the Universal Energy Field in a way that provides healing to themselves, other people, animals, plants, and any other form of energy in the universe.  In various cultural settings, these individuals are called shamans, medicine people, wise woman/cunning men, faith healers, light workers, and so on.

My Background
As an Energy Healer, I have learned numerous healing techniques over the past 25 years, including Reiki, Shamanic Techniques, Unlimited Body, and others.  During each Energy Healing session, I use my knowledge of the structure of the Human Energy Field and combine this with a well-developed sense of intuition to guide me through a particular session.  Unlike practitioners that adhere to a given modality, I do not use a predetermined healing protocol to determine the path of the session. This is allows me to follow the needs of the individual and provide for a more complete healing session.  There have been times when I have incorporated multiple modalities into a session and times when I have sat with my hands on one part of the individual’s body for an entire session.  It all depends on the individual’s needs, the connection established with the client, and my intuitive sense.

The Session
A typical session will begin with a brief intake and/or a short discussion about the issues a client wishes to work on.  At the beginning of the healing, I will assess the individual energy field, looking for blockages, weak points, and imbalances, as well as assessing the overall strength and size of the field.  Then, I will allow my hands to be guided to the area of the field that either serves as an entry point for the session to begin or a place that requires the most energy.  During a session, I may use sound to help facilitate the healing.  I may also ask the individual questions or have you do certain things like take a deep breath, move a part of the body, or make a certain sound.  Each session will end with a final assessment, a final clearing of the energy field, and some discussion of what I discovered during the session.  Additionally, I often offer “exercises” that you can do at home to help with any issues that I may have uncovered during a session.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What do I do during a session?
A: I typically tell clients that they should focus on anything that they feel in their bodies or on emotions that might arise during a session.  Clients should focus on themselves and not on what I am doing.

Q: Can I fall asleep during a session?
A: Yes, you will get what you need during a session.  If this means sleep, then you will sleep.  However, I do encourage clients to try to stay awake so they can focus on the healing process.

Q: What do I wear to a session?
A: I recommend loose or lightweight clothing.  I suggest that you are comfortable and able to move freely.  There may be times when the body needs to move during a session and tight clothing might restrict movement.

Q: What will I feel during a session?
A:  Depending on your sensitivity to subtle body/energy work, you might feel tingling in the area of my hands or some other area of the body.  You may encounter a general sense of wellness or lightness throughout your body or in a particular area.  You will most likely feel warmth emanating from my hands.  During a session, you might also feel emotional, which is also indicative of the healing process.

Q: Don’t you get tired from doing this work?  (This is my favorite question)
A: No, not if I am doing it right.  During a session, I open myself up to the flow energy from the universe, allow that energy to enter into my body, concentrate that energy so that it will flow through me without interference from me or anything else, then pass that energy through me to you.  In fact, if anything, I may sometimes feel overly energetic and need to ground some of that excess energy after an energy session.

If you are unsure about Energy Healing, you can always add-on 20 minutes of Energy Healing to a Myofascial, Lymphatic Drainage, or Acupressure session to see how it feels.
